The thin metal rod that sticks out of the hanger and where you mount the wheels. Its width must match your deck.
Extended definition
It's the most important dimension when choosing trucks. An 8.25″ deck calls for an 8.25″ axle, not 8.0″. Each brand uses its own system (Independent numeric codes, Thunder mm, Venture inches).
