Trick

Kickflip

Trick where the board spins 360° horizontally on its long axis while you jump, "flicking" it with the side of your front foot.

Extended definition

Rodney Mullen invented it in 1983 (he called it the "Magic Flip"). You jump like an ollie and, in the air, flick the side of your front foot toward the nose: the board does a full rotation under your feet and you catch it before landing. It's the first flip almost everyone learns and the gateway to the rest (heelflip, varial flip, treflip). Done on flatground, over gaps and stairs, and as the entry or exit of grinds and slides.

Origin / etymology

From "kick" + "flip" (the board's rotation).
