The basic skate jump. Lets you lift the board off the ground without grabbing it. The base of almost every other trick.
Extended definition
Invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand in 1978. Before the ollie you couldn't jump anything with the board. Today it's the first trick any skater learns and the base of kickflips, grinds, slides and basically everything else.

From the nickname of Alan Gelfand, who invented it in Florida in 1978.
